Optometry

What is it ?

Optometry is an autonomous health profession, trained and regulated around the world. It is generally carried out in close collaboration with the doctor, or as part of a delegation of tasks.

In France, optometry does not benefit from a specific framework in the Public Health Code, but is practiced within the framework of the optician-eyewear profession.

According to the WHO (World Health Organization) - the WCO (World Council of Optometry) and international authorities:

“Eye and visual system health professionals who provide a complete ocular and visual service, which includes refraction and the provision of optical equipment, detection/diagnosis, monitoring of ocular diseases and rehabilitation of the visual system” .

Optometry regulations vary from country to country.

In Europe, ECOO (European Council of Optometry and Optics) works to harmonize the teaching and professional practice of optometry.

In France, training lasts 5 to 6 years (as part of agreements with the University, in the form of Licenses & Masters (LMD), etc.).

At Meyrowitz, an optometrist will see you by appointment.
