Real tortoiseshell glasses:

At Meyrowitz, we are happy and proud to put ourselves at the service of our customers both to adapt and maintain these exceptional frames and to advise them in the choice or design. Real tortoiseshell, a natural thermo-elastic, hypoallergenic, lightweight and antiperspirant material, allows precise and durable adjustments which guarantee the wearer optimal comfort. From the 6th century, we find traces of its use for all kinds of personal objects. In eyewear, it has never ceased to be considered the must-have in optical equipment. The sea turtle (Cartoiseshell turtle), whose scales were used, is protected by the Washington Convention. Only items resulting from the use of old stocks can be sold. Thanks to the partnership we maintain with our French artisans, we are able to offer a wide choice of frames available in the store and for custom-made creations, to present tortoiseshell plates ready to be worked to create unique pieces. , capable of crossing time.

18k gold glasses:

They come from the famous brands Alexanian (in the Netherlands), Lindberg (in Denmark), Lotos (in Germany) and Silhouette (in Austria). Gold is the same as that used in jewelry, so it has the same magic. You can find it classically yellow, but also in a gray finish, commonly called “white gold” and more and more often in pink gold. Indeed, the shine of pink gold is very popular in Asia.

Natural horn glasses:

They are made in the Hoffmann workshops (in Germany). Buffalo horn comes from specific breeding. Horn is a “silk” with soft, cool contact with the skin and antiallergic properties. It is also a resistant, low-density fiber which allows the creation of lightweight frames in varied colors depending on the part of the horn used.

Where does the horn come from?

Hoffmann uses the horn of the Asian water buffalo. In Asia, it is a domestic animal. These animals are not covered by the Washington Convention for the Protection of Species (CITES). The water buffalo is an indispensable part of agricultural life in many parts of the world, used as a four-legged tractor to pull plows and harrows, help carry water and thresh grain, and pull carts . The water buffalo is also essential to people in the rice-growing regions of Asia. In addition to their muscular power, animals provide milk, leather and their valuable horn as by-products. As the water buffalo is an honored and extremely important animal to the people of these countries, it stands to reason that buffalo are not killed for their horn.

Precious wood glasses:

They are made in the Gold & Wood workshops (in Luxembourg) and W-Eye (in Italy). Wood (buginga and ebony) is an hypoallergenic material and the lightness of this entirely natural material is a major asset for frames.
